A Quarter of a Million Twitter Users’ Accounts Have Been Potentially Compromised

Social media hulk Twitter is reported to be among the growing list of victims that suffer Internet security attacks in USA. If the reports are to be believed, hackers have accessed almost 250,000 info of the site’s 200 million active users.

Twitter, while accepting the reports on unauthorized attempt to access on its users’ data blogged on 1st Feb Friday, “we detected unusual access patterns that led to us identifying unauthorized access attempts to Twitter user data. We discovered one live attack and were able to shut it down in process moments later.”

Twitter has already shot emails to those users whose accounts’ security has been breached notifying them that their accounts’ passwords have already been reset, and they need not have to create new password to access their account again.

There have been a series of cyber attacks off late which breached the security of The New York Times and The Wall Street Journal. Both these publications have accused China-based hackers infiltrating their Twitter did not provide any clue accusing China for the security breach. Twitter’s director of information security, Bob Lord, asserted that the no rookie hackers were involved in the crime and said that the hackers knew what they were doing.

Graham Cluley, Internet security specialist advised the Twitter users to be cautious while opening emails which appear to be from Twitter as these spam emails could phish sensitive information.
