Now you can enjoy a courtside seat at a game or jump out of a plane by just wearing a pair of goggles. Since, Oculus is set to be the next big game changer. This is what Mark Zuckerberg, Facebook founder and CEO predicts. According to him, the Oculus Rift will change the way “we work, play and communicate”.
Ever since its acquisition on March 2014 by Facebook, many of us has been wondering, what virtual reality holds for us in the near future? Will this eventually get clichéd to the world meant only for gamers, tech enthusiasts and software developers? Alternatively, will it have a major role to play in our daily lives?
The concept of virtual reality is amazing and holds a deeper meaning than just a mere gaming station. That is what most television ads convey (if you have seen the Sony PlayStation ad).
The Big Move
Facebook made a move by purchasing the Oculus Rift. This made everyone (especially businesspersons), to predict that our mainstream digital world will soon merge with the virtual world. Many brand and digital agencies have already started to combine this technology with their existing marketing strategies, to bring out a completely new experience.
Oculus Rift: What Is It?
By the time you reach here, you must have got some idea what Oculus Rift is all about. This head-mounted display was invented by twenty one year old Palmer Lucky, which is now being developed by Oculus VR. Palmer’s invention of this virtual headgear has proved that youngsters can change the world to a new level.
The concept of creating the Oculus Rift came during his involvement with the discussion forums of Meant to Be Seen (MTBS). While working as a moderator there, he came up with the idea of making an effective virtual reality head gear. This headgear is not only effective but is also affordable when compared with other head mounted displays found in the market. Though, in its nascent state, developers are working hard to wring out its every potential.
We expect to see its consumer version by the end of this year or as early as possible in 2015.
Why The Future Awaits For Oculus Rift?
Several industries have already started experimenting with this new technology. Oculus is a game changer in the world of not only gaming but also education, entertainment and much more.
- Get High Definition Entertainment
Oculus Rift has made a hit in the 5D theatres. It is just a matter of time before you get to experience watching films from a three dimensional perspective.
- Experience Your Holiday before Planning
Deciding your holiday destination is no more a problem. With the new Oculus Rift, travel agencies can give you a virtual tour of your destination.
- Give Virtual Tours of Your Project
Property developers will no longer need to explain people as to how their property will look like after completion. They can instead make people get a virtual tour of their project.
- Huge impact On Health
Virtual Reality can heal post -traumatic disorder. After the 2001 attack of the World Trade Center, doctors used virtual reality to heal traumatized patients. Even the US military uses virtual reality for their soldiers. Albert Rizzo, researcher of the Institute for Creative Technologies (California University); developed the ‘Virtual Iraq’ in 2005. This helped US soldiers to recover from ordeals with positive results.
- Connect Education Worldwide
With Oculus Rift, you can attend classes with people across the globe. This approach would substantially boost worldwide education and allow universities to take in more students.
- Learn With Easy Demonstrations
Get easy demonstrations when it comes to practical classes for medical and mechanical engineering students. Even pilots can learn to fly with this virtual reality training.
This Is Just the Beginning
“But this is just the start”, is what Mark Zuckerberg posted on Facebook. A transformative technology, it will make us experience the impossible. Future is changing and so is the technology. One thing that everyone is certain about – with Oculus Rift, the world will see the fastest technological revolution on Earth.
